As it was always a bedrock for the cultures of the East and the West to intermingle on, Beirut establishes Middle East Airlines in 1945 to summon the travelers around the globe to quench their thirst for traveling. In January, 1946, MEA commenced its operations with its hub being located on Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport.
As the flag carrier of Lebanon, MEA first launched its service to the adjacent cities of Syria, Cyprus, Egypt then Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and other destinations in the Gulf. After being merged with Air Liban, Middle East Airlines scheduled flights into European, Middle Eastern, and West African destinations.

To aggrandize its global network with more destinations, in June 2012, MEA became officially a member of SkyTeam airline alliance. To explain, SkyTeam offers over 15000 daily scheduled flights to 1000 destinations in 187 countries. Additionally, Middle East Airlines is a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization (AACO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
